BACK TO SCHOOL PRAYERS

Posted by Funke Awojide

It’s back to school season for a lot of us. The thrills of a new grade, maybe a new school, meeting new friends and reconnecting with old ones are all what makes a new school year exciting! We all look forward to it- Parents and kids. But in the wake of recent happenings all around the world, school is different for a lot of our kids right now.

Online school and virtual learning have been the order of the day for a few months since the pandemic. Most of us probably thought it won’t last for so long, maybe a month or two but we were wrong. So much has changed and we are all learning to adjust. As our kids start school or maybe yours started already, it’s important to help them understand the changes that may be happening. Two weeks  ago, our Son asked when school would be starting and I said soon, he responded happily by saying yaayyyy I can celebrate my birthday with my friends in September! What we weren’t sure of at that time was whether school will be virtual  or onsite.

Physical friendships, playground screams and hugs, play dates and sleep overs have all been put on hold. Now it’s all virtual parties, zoom calls and endless virtual classes. We all need help to navigate this season- our kids, their amazing teachers, parents etc all need wisdom, grace, strength and a truck load of patience.

Fast forward to a few days ago, we were able to confirm that school will be virtual for the first term and our son’s reaction was mixed- one of happiness and sadness as he realized what that meant for his planned birthday celebration. If we take time out to think of how the pandemic and all changes around has affected us as adults, then we will be able to see how it has affected our children too.

Physical friendships, playground screams and hugs, play dates and sleep overs have all been put on hold. Now it’s all virtual parties, zoom calls and endless virtual classes. We all need help to navigate this season- our kids, their amazing teachers, parents etc all need wisdom, grace, strength and a truck load of patience to make it through this season.

This is why we will be sharing some ‘back to school prayers’ this month of September to encourage you and your family to place those cares and concerns at the Master’s feet as many times as you remember. We want our kids to have an amazing start to the school year even if they don’t get to mingle physically with their friends just yet and talk about how they spent their last holiday! Whether you are homeschooling by choice or not, or your child is learning virtually or onsite or a mix of both,  our prayer is that through these month’s prayers they will learn to lean on God in such an uncertain time, understand and learn excellently as well  as make good friendships that will bring them joy and laughter beyond this season.

Welcome to a new school year!

This article is so apt and relatable at this time. My boys started classes online like 2 weeks ago and all i hear is they can’t wait to go back on campus and make new friends. This pandemic period has taken all of us through a whole lot of different emotions and as adults, we may know how to deal with those but kids find it hard to navigate through so much at once! Thank God for God who has been our mainstay through it all! And thank you for this article too!
