The closest relationships our kids will have outside the home is with friends! We love it when they make new friends whether it’s at school, church, on the play ground or in the neighbourhood. Sometimes as parents, we have become friends with another parent simply because our kids and their kids are friends, so we automatically become friends, right?

Friendships are sweet, fun and memorable but they can also be full of fights, tears and wrong influences. Proverbs 12:26 says “the righteous choose their friends carefully, but the way of the wicked leads them astray.” That’s how powerful friendships are. As a parent, I don’t know if you have ever worried or thought about what kind of friends your kids have, what do they talk about when they gist, what influence is your child making in their friends life and vice versa? These are worth thinking about and praying about too.
Whether your child is a toddler or teen, our kids need friends they can wear the same dress with, play video games with and laugh over silly things together. As they grow older, these friendships have to go beyond wearing dresses and watching movies. They need Godly and genuine friendships they can count on. Friends that can pray with them and for them through the seasons of life. Friends they can talk to when they have their first crush or their first big job. Friends that inspire and support them to be all God wants them to be! At every stage and age, the company they keep is very important. This is why we want them and you to pray about their friendships.

This month as the kids pray about their friendships, seize the opportunity to talk to them about their closest friends, pray along with them, ask God to connect them with the right set of friends as they go along life’s journey, friends that will help them in their faith and walk with God, friends that will spur them to good works.
Most importantly we pray that they will come to know the best friend of all-Jesus who showed the greatest love by laying His life down for us all (John 15:13-16), may they know that they can count on Him every day and in every situation in Jesus name amen!
