A few months ago our 2years old daughter (almost 3) fell in love with PANCAKES AND HONEY! She can be picky with certain foods so imagine our excitement when she discovered this new food. She asked for it in the mornings for breakfast and even ate them for lunch. She will get the honey while we are preparing the pancakes and choose to feed herself, dipping the pancake in the honey, so yummy! We were delighted she had a new favorite food!
What does honey have to do with praying? I will tell you if you promise to keep reading.
One morning, she asked for pancakes and honey as usual and we said she couldn’t have them because we had run out of honey. We forgot to buy it. She kept asking and finally she settled for something else.
At bed time that same day, we gathered together to pray as a family with our son and daughter as we love to do daily. We usually take turns to pray and our daughter starts off mostly. Her prayers are usually fun to listen to, she prays about everything; for Mummy and Daddy, her brother, her toys and anything she remembers that happened during the day. On this particular night, this was her prayer- GOD PROVIDE FOR DADDY SO HE CAN BUY HONEY IN JESUS NAME!
This got me thinking of how wonderful it will be for us to raise kids who can pray about the serious and silliest things. To us it may sound funny and weird sometimes but to them it’s as real as it can be. To God, it’s a conversation that delights His heart, because He’s pleased with an honest person’s prayer (Proverbs 15 verse 8, ICB).
So keep praying with your kids and teach them to do the same, let them talk to God by themselves. Our prayer is that your kids will not worry about anything, but they will pray and ask God for everything they need as they grow daily(Philippians 4 verse 8, ICB).
Oh yes we bought the honey the next day and our daughter is still enjoying her pancakes!

I smiled throughout while reading this blogpost because I have a two year old who prays for the serious and silliest things. Thanks for sharing. This is an enjoyable read.

So true 😅. Children’s prayers sound funny to us but the intent and purity with which the prayers are offered is undeniable. I told my 5yo daughter she could talk to God about just anything whenever she wants. Same day , God helped me butress my point with a good example. My 2yo+ son had constipation and it was 6 days already no poo. That morning I said out loud , Jesus please take control and let him poo today. Few hours later , He pooped 😅. I asked if she remembered what I told her about talking to God about just anything and the prayer I said in the morning, she said Yes😃
Prayer time with them is a time to laugh but hey!! Thank God for helping us raise them right .
Good job and may God continue to strengthen us all. Amen

Janey, I’m so glad God answered your prayer about the constipation. That can really be worrying and I’m so glad your daughter was there when you prayed. What a great example for her. I love your comment about the intent and purity of our children’s prayers. No matter how it sounds, we want to keep encouraging them to talk to God!Thank you so much for reading.

Very well written, thanks for the post and the real life example that you used to buttress your point. More grace in Jesus name.
