The Bible is full of verses about how much God loves us and how He wants us to love others. God showed that love for us by sending His one and only Son to die for our sins while we were still sinners! What an incredible love. God didn’t just say I expect you to love me, He led the way. He took action, He sacrificed, He conquered death for us. Jesus did all these so we could be called the children of God (1 John 3:1).
And so, having received this great and unconditional love expressed through the life of Jesus, His death and His resurrection, we are invited to a love relationship with God and His followers. Jesus tells us in Matthew 22 verses 36-40 that the the first and greatest commandment is to love Him with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. Then He adds that we should love our neighbors as ourselves. God doesn’t want us to just love Him, He also wants us to love others as we love ourselves. God’s love overflows from us to others as we follow Him.
God didn’t just say “I expect you to love me, He led the way. He took action, He sacrificed, He conquered death for us. Jesus did all these so we could be called the children (1 John 3:1)”.
